Magnum Winchester

What makes the Winchester different than other Magnum corn/biomass stoves?

It has a new step top design, a new improved heat exchanger and new burn technology for higher efficiencies. The Winchester has a sleek cabinet design with a step top to give it a popular and unique look. The Winchester is also available as an insert to convert a drafty, inefficient wood burning fireplace into an efficient corn, biomass, agri-fuel burning appliance. The Winchester insert is accompanied by a standard shroud that can be installed as a built in fireplace with your own custom surround. Queen Ann style legs can also be added to the cabinet design for enhanced style, height and dimension. The Winchester, as with all of our appliances are available in five custom paint colors: metallic black, charcoal gray, forest green, honey glow brown, and sky blue.

What is new about the heat exchanger?
The heat exchanger capacity has doubled in size and is accompanied by a newly designed wrap around air shell. This improves the heat transfer and results in higher efficiency of the Winchester.

What is the new burn technology in the Winchester?
A new firepot design has been incorporated into the Winchester that redirects the air flow into the firepot so corn and other fuels can be burnt more efficiently. The new firepot combined with the new improved heat exchanger provides the Winchester with state of the art technology.

Does the Winchester have a fuel stirrer?
No, the Winchester does not require a fuel stirrer to efficiently burn a variety of fuels. Fuel stirrers are offered in other Magnum products.

What kind of fuels can I burn in the Winchester?
Dried corn, wood pellets, and a variety of other biomass and agri-fuels such as grass pellets, wheat, barley, rye, oats, cherry pits, olive pits and waste paper pellets can be consumed as fuel in the Winchester. A mixture of these fuels may also be combined and burnt at one time.

Why is corn, biomass and agri-fuels as renewable energies better to burn than fossil fuels?
Fossil fuels such as oil, gas and coal have limited availability and are price volatile. On average it only takes four months to grow a renewable energy such as corn. By using corn for heating purposes, we can assist in decreasing our use of fossil fuels and other rapidly depleting energy sources. By reducing the demand of fossil fuels, their cost will stabilize. Burning corn and renewable energies for heating our homes allows us to support our local communities and their economies by keeping our business local and reducing the need of importing fuel.

Does the Winchester start by itself?
The Winchester has an optional automatic ignition system that can be ordered separately. Since a large percentage of our customers prefer manual ignition, we made the automatic ignition an option instead of a standard feature.

Can I use a thermostat?
Yes, a low voltage thermostat can be installed to provide you with your optimum comfort and fuel usage. A low voltage thermostat can be purchased from your dealer, or a local home improvement or hardware store. Be sure to follow the thermostat manufacturer’s installation instructions.

What is the heating capacity of the Winchester?
The Winchester has a heating capacity of up to 45,000 BTUs input and depending on heat loss and heat load can heat the average home design in a cold climate. The actual heating ability cannot be determined by the factory because of the many factors determining heating area capability. The Winchester has a variety of heat settings to meet the needs of a homeowner and to account for changes in the outside air temperature.

How long will the Winchester burn?
The Winchester has a hopper capacity of up to 68 pounds and a burn time of up to 56 hours, the longest of any Magnum appliances. Your burn times may vary due to the quality of fuel, installation, heat setting, and the outside climatic conditions.

What is meant by DC models?
AC is alternating current as found in household electrical outlets and DC is direct current like that of 12 volt batteries. The DC Winchester models can operate on electricity from solar panels, wind power, batteries, or a large watt generator during a power outage. During standard operation, DC models operate on household electricity and will automatically switch to battery or other alternative power during a power outage. When the AC current is restored, the Winchester will automatically trickle charge the battery for future use. The battery is not included.

What is the routine cleaning and maintenance of the Winchester? How often must the Winchester be professionally serviced?
The heat exchanger should be cleaned daily and is easily done by pulling and pushing a rod that scrapes the fly ash off the heat exchanger tubes. The firepot should be checked or cleaned of build up daily and the clinker build up removed if needed. The ash chambers and the ash pan should be cleaned every 3 to 7 days depending on the model, your fuel and your burning habits. The exhaust system, motors and fans should be cleaned monthly or as needed with a chimney brush and/or an ash vacuum designed for pellet and corn stoves. An ash vacuum designed for fine ash makes the cleaning process easy and more effective by preventing tiny ash particles from releasing into the air and also as a safety precaution incase any hot ashes were to be accidentally vacuumed. There is an annual spring cleaning of the stove in which the auger, fans and motors are cleaned. Read the Winchester Owner’s Manual for complete instructions.

How is the Winchester vented?
The Winchester has direct vent capabilities and use 3" or 4" corn venting or PL venting. This small diameter venting is inexpensive and easy to use. A certified MagnuM dealer or a HVAC certified person is required to install your MagnuM appliance. MagnuM appliances can virtually be installed anywhere in the home. The dealer will determine the flexibility of a vertical or horizontal venting installation.

Is fresh air required with the Winchester?
Yes, outside fresh air is required and should be connected to all Magnum corn/bio-mass appliances to operate properly. Utilizing outside combustion air aids the efficiency of the unit and keeps the heat in your home where it belongs.

How clean is the exhaust?
All American Energy Systems Inc. MagnuM appliances have surpassed stringent international safety, efficiency, and emission testing. All MagnuM appliances are EPA status exempt.

Can I add legs to the Winchester?

Are the doors and grills available in different finishes? How well will I see the fire?

You will be romanced by the full view of the dancing fire.
